NewsIPV Accelerates Live News and Sports Production with Key Enhancements to its Curator System at NAB
Las Vegas, April 11, 2010
IPV, a global leader and largest independent supplier
of media, metadata and low bit-rate, frame-accurate
video technology to the broadcast and professional
video sectors, will showcase the latest tools for its
Curator system that accelerate the workflow for live
event production including news and sports. New capabilities
making a début at NAB include the integration between
the Curator system and Teragator data aggregation engine
as well as close integration with the Adobe Premier
Pro Editor for on-the-fly editing to deliver fast turnaround
of news bulletins and sports highlights.
An affordable, tapeless workflow environment running
on both PC and Apple® Mac platforms, the Curator
system is designed to allow communities of media professionals
to add value to their content and efficiently fulfil
tasks such as desktop editing media annotation, review
and approve and general media browsing. It is a complete
solution that can efficiently ingest, encode or transcode,
at low bitrate, proxy SDI or file-based media, which
can then be used concurrently by multiple users. Whatever
the source of the material, the Curator version is
guaranteed to be frame accurate at all times giving
an unprecedented desktop experience.
Curator comes into its own in a live event environment
by providing the facility to immediately browse and
rough cut edit at the desktop with live content, efficiently
annotate and log media and easily manage high resolution
media movement — all on a standard network. Making
its début at NAB 2010 is the system’s ability to directly
integrate with the Adobe Premier Pro Editor for live
editing and voiceover capabilities in a networked environment.
This process allows journalists to quickly assemble
material for news or highlights packages and conform
the output directly to air or craft editing and apply
to the high resolution for finishing. The Curator
system can also be fully integrated with the leading
newsroom systems providing an end-to-end workflow.
Additionally in a fast-paced production environment,
Curator can support federated content search and discovery
through close integration with IPV’s Teragator relational
metadata aggregation and management engine that was
first introduced as a technology showing at IBC 2009.
Built on Semantic Web Technologies, Teragator is a
powerful tool that provides a platform to aggregate
disparate metadata sources and data mining services
to identify and manage complex relational links between
assets and provide a simple visually compelling graphical
user interface to represent and interact with these
links. In combination with IPV’s renowned low bitrate
video technology, users can browse through the contents
of any or multiple libraries to identify related, more
appropriate content, quickly and simply — driving improved
workflow and cost-efficiencies in finding, retrieving
and managing assets and associated metadata and maximising
earnings from a media asset portfolio.
"IPV has further increased the productivity of
the Curator workflow by incorporating tools that improve
the speed of ingest, logging and retrieval while at
the same time providing an integrated editing solution
for live applications right at the desktop," said
Nigel Booth, Executive Vice President for Sales and
Marketing at IPV. "This desktop performance is
what drives operator acceptance as it is easy to learn
and navigate, which in turn allows broadcasters to
accelerate processing speed, improves the production
values of their programs and increases the returns
by efficiently reducing overall operational costs."
